Occidental Cabin Retreat
A Modern Woodland Sanctuary in Sonoma County’s Redwood Forest
Tucked among the majestic redwoods of Occidental, California, this thoughtfully reimagined cabin retreat celebrates the beauty of nature through organic modern interior design, rich materiality, and a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living.
The renovation preserved the warmth of a woodland cabin while introducing a sophisticated contemporary aesthetic. Inspired by the forest, the design embraces natural materials, dramatic contrasts, and layered textures to create a luxurious retreat deeply connected to its environment.
At the heart of the transformation, the kitchen features striking green Rainforest marble countertops, deep charcoal cabinetry, and textured wood ceilings and walls. The interplay of natural stone, warm timber, and dark finishes creates a bold palette that echoes the surrounding redwood landscape.

Expansive new window openings in the kitchen and family room invite natural light while framing treetop views. These architectural enhancements strengthen the connection to the outdoors, allowing forest light and beauty to become an integral part of the design.
Thoughtfully selected green tile, sculptural fixtures, and contemporary detailing introduce a refined contrast to the cabin’s rustic architectural elements. The combination of organic textures and modern finishes creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that balances woodland charm with understated luxury.
The completed renovation is a sophisticated interpretation of modern cabin living—a peaceful California retreat where architecture, nature, and thoughtful interior design exist in harmony.
