How exactly does an interior designer take the vague ideas in your head and turn them into a cohesive design?

Today I’m pulling back the curtain to take you on a guided tour through my design process. I’ll show you exactly how I transform my clients’ ideas into stunning, personalized spaces that reflect their unique style and vision.

Step 1: Discovery

Every design project begins with gaining a deep understanding of my client’s tastes, preferences, desires, and requirements. I’ve been told I have an uncanny ability to cut through mind clutter and hone in on what exactly my clients want—even when they don’t know themselves.

For one recent project (remember the house with the killer views of the San Rafael bay?), my clients were passionate about music, quilting, crafting, and entertaining—and we identified that their ideal home needed to reflect and accommodate those passions.

Step 2: Mood board

Next, we create mood boards, which are a curated collection of images, textures, colors, and materials that capture the essence of the client’s vision. This visual collage serves as a roadmap, guiding us through the design process and helping us to define the overall look and feel of the space.

Step 3: Concept Development

During the concept development phase, we transform inspiration into a cohesive design concept. This is where we explore different layouts, furniture pieces, and decorative elements, refining our ideas until we get it exactly right.

Step 4: Design Execution

It’s time to bring our vision to life! The execution phase involves everything from selecting furniture and finishes to coordinating with contractors and artisans to ensure every detail is executed with precision and care.

Step 5: Final Installation

This is the big moment. The final installation is where all our hard work and dedication come together as we transform empty rooms into fully-furnished spaces. From hanging artwork and arranging furniture to styling shelves and installing window treatments, every detail is meticulously implemented to align with our client’s vision.

If you’re ready to take the first step towards creating a home you love, I invite you to book a call with me.

Until next time!
Lauren
